TLDR Cyclosporin A does not change sex hormone levels.
The study investigated whether Cyclosporin A, known for causing hypertrichosis (hirsutism), influenced sex hormone levels. It involved 16 patients (5 female, 11 male) who developed hair overgrowth during Cyclosporin A treatment, compared to a control group on Azathioprine. Hormone levels, including serum androgens, prolactin, 17-hydroxyprogesterone, 17β-estradiol, and cortisol, were measured. Results showed no significant differences in serum androgens or prolactin levels between the groups, with 17-OHP and cortisol levels affected by cortisone treatment. The study concluded that Cyclosporin A-induced hair growth was not due to hormonal changes.
