TLDR Reducing dandruff improves physical comfort and emotional wellbeing.
This study investigated the impact of dandruff reduction on psychological wellbeing using a 4-week intervention with an anti-dandruff shampoo (ADS) containing Piroctone Olamine. Results showed that ADS effectively reduced dandruff symptoms and improved emotional wellbeing, as measured by the Scalpdex questionnaire. While self-esteem did not change, improvements in scalp comfort, health, and confidence were noted. A mediation analysis combining data from a similar study with Zinc Pyrithione ADS revealed that reducing dandruff symptoms enhanced emotional wellbeing and indirectly improved daily functioning. The study concludes that addressing dandruff symptoms not only increases physical comfort but also positively affects mental and emotional health, enhancing individuals' daily functioning.
