TLDR Most patients with alopecia areata in Syria are young adult males, often with patchy scalp hair loss.
The study conducted in Syria is the first to assess the demographic and clinical characteristics of patients with alopecia areata (AA) in the country. It involved 99 patients from six healthcare facilities across five governorates. The majority of patients were male (76.76%), with an average age of 27.37 years, and young adults (20-39 years) were the most affected age group. The study found that 22.22% of patients had a family history of AA, and 25.25% reported having concomitant diseases, with vitiligo and asthma being the most common. The most frequently observed type of AA was patchy scalp (62.62%). The study highlights the need for further research with larger sample sizes to better understand AA in Syria.
