The study "TARGET-DERM AA" analyzed 267 alopecia areata (AA) patients from the US and Canada to assess characteristics among those with comorbid atopic dermatitis (AD), vitiligo, or anxiety/depression (AnxDep). The cohort was predominantly female (61.4%) and included pediatric, adolescent, and adult patients. Comorbidities were reported as follows: 21.0% had AD, 7.1% had vitiligo, and 44.9% had AnxDep. The presence of these comorbidities did not result in statistically significant differences in clinician-reported AA severity or eyebrow/eyelash involvement. However, patients with AnxDep reported higher AA disease severity. The study suggests further research is needed to understand the impact of dermatologic and psychiatric comorbidities on quality of life and patient management.
