TLDR Dental professionals should ensure safety in facial aesthetics by being properly trained and registered.
Dr. Jalpesh Patel argued that the dental profession should enhance accountability and transparency in the facial aesthetics sector by establishing a register of practitioners. The demand for aesthetic treatments, such as botulinum toxin and dermal fillers, was increasing, often without adequate regulation, leading to potential risks. The Joint Council for Cosmetic Practitioners (JCCP) provided a framework for accrediting practitioners, emphasizing the need for dentists and dental professionals to undergo specific training. Patel highlighted the importance of educating patients about the risks and ensuring treatments are performed by qualified professionals to improve safety standards. He advocated for collaboration between dental professionals and regulatory bodies to safeguard patient safety and elevate industry standards.
