TLDR Lower adiponectin levels may relate to depression in women with PCOS.
This study investigated the relationship between depression and adiponectin levels in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) compared to healthy women, involving 180 participants aged 18 to 45. The results showed a weak but statistically significant negative correlation between depression and adiponectin levels in women with PCOS (p = 0.016), while no significant correlation was found in healthy women (p = 0.470). Additionally, there was a significant difference in depression scores and adiponectin levels between women with PCOS and healthy women (p < 0.001), suggesting that adiponectin levels could potentially be used as a complementary measure in treating depression in PCOS patients.
