TLDR Over half of alopecia areata patients in Tunisia experience depression, highlighting the need for psychological support.
This study investigated the prevalence of depression among 60 alopecia areata (AA) patients in Tunisia, finding that 51.7% were depressed according to the Hamilton Depression Scale. Depression was significantly associated with younger age, involvement of eyelashes/eyebrows, nail involvement, and poor response to treatment. The study underscores the need for psychological support for AA patients to improve their quality of life and disease management.
