TLDR Glycemic control medications for Type 2 diabetes can affect skin conditions like psoriasis.
This review discusses the dermatologic implications of glycemic control medications for patients with Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), focusing on metformin and GLP-1 and GLP-1/GIP agonists. While these medications are primarily used to improve blood glucose levels and insulin sensitivity, they also have hormonal and immunologic effects that can impact dermatologic conditions such as psoriasis and hidradenitis suppurativa. The review highlights both the adverse effects and potential therapeutic benefits of these medications on skin health in T2DM patients.
