TLDR Using a dexpanthenol ointment after micro-needling speeds up skin healing without affecting benefits.
The study found that using a dexpanthenol-containing ointment (DCO) after micro-needling accelerates epidermal wound healing in human 3D skin models. DCO-treated models achieved complete wound closure within 24 hours, unlike untreated models. The treatment preserved the upregulation of inflammatory markers and prevented the downregulation of skin barrier and differentiation markers, enhancing wound healing without affecting the necessary inflammatory response for collagen induction. These results suggest DCO is an effective post-treatment for micro-needling, promoting faster healing while maintaining the procedure's benefits.
