Differential Expression and Analysis of TBX3 Gene in Skin Tissues of Dun Mongolian Horses with and Without Bider Markings

This study examines the differential expression of the TBX3 gene in Dun Mongolian horses, focusing on the rare Bider markings. Involving 6 horses (3 with Bider markings and 3 without), the research found significant differences in TBX3 gene expression between marked and non-marked skin regions, suggesting its role in pigmentation and marking formation. TBX3 expression was higher in light-colored areas, particularly in the croup, challenging the traditional view of TBX3's role in pigment dilution. The study highlights the complexity of TBX3's role in equine pigmentation and suggests further research with larger sample sizes to better understand its regulatory mechanisms.
