TLDR Digital health tools can improve dermatology patients' quality of life and mental health.
Digital health interventions (DHIs) in dermatology, including telemedicine, targeted client communication, personal health tracking, and client-to-client communication, have shown potential to improve patients' quality of life (QoL) and psychosocial outcomes. This systematic review of 14 studies found that telemedicine often resulted in non-inferior or superior QoL compared to in-person care, while targeted client communication improved mental health and self-efficacy despite mixed QoL effects. Personal health tracking showed no significant QoL improvement, and client-to-client communication offered psychosocial support. However, the evidence is limited by methodological differences, bias risks, and short follow-up periods. Future research should focus on standardized outcomes and integrate AI for personalized support, ensuring fairness in algorithms.
