TLDR Discoid lupus erythematosus can cause scarring hair loss on the scalp, needing ongoing treatment and specialist care.
Discoid lupus erythematosus can manifest as scarred alopecia on the scalp, accounting for about 5% of alopecia cases. A 47-year-old patient was diagnosed with this condition through clinical, histological, and dermatoscopic studies, while systemic lupus erythematosus was ruled out. Treatment included hydroxychloroquine, aevit, venarus, topical applications, and ultraphonophoresis with hydrocortisone, leading to clinical improvement. Continuous observation by specialists is crucial to prevent further alopecia and address psychosocial impacts.
