TLDR Black patients are underrepresented in alopecia research, highlighting the need for more inclusive studies.
This study reveals significant racial disparities in alopecia quality of life research, with Black patients being underrepresented in both study participation and funding compared to White participants. Out of 982 studies analyzed, only 22 included racial demographics, with an average of 12.1 Black participants per study versus 139 White participants. The findings stress the need for more inclusive research to understand alopecia's impact on minority populations and call for consistent reporting on sex and race to improve therapies and support for Black alopecia patients.
