TLDR Dutasteride may help treat frontal fibrosing alopecia.
This systematic review and meta-analysis evaluated the effectiveness of oral dutasteride in treating frontal fibrosing alopecia (FFA), a type of scarring alopecia. The analysis included 7 articles with a total of 361 patients, most of whom also received adjuvant therapies like corticosteroids. The study found that dutasteride led to stabilization in approximately 63.9% of cases and improvement in about 35.6% of cases. Overall, 53.2% of patients experienced stabilization or improvement, suggesting that dutasteride is a promising treatment option for FFA. However, further randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled studies are needed to confirm its efficacy.
