TLDR Trichoscopy effectively shows early positive effects of minoxidil in male pattern hair loss, improving patient satisfaction.
This prospective cohort study conducted at MGM Medical College and MY Hospital evaluated the early trichoscopic changes in male patients undergoing minoxidil 5% therapy for male pattern hair loss. The study found that trichoscopy is an effective tool for assessing early effects of minoxidil, which are not visible to the naked eye, thereby improving patient satisfaction and compliance. Despite minor adverse effects reported by 45.5% of subjects, including scalp dryness and increased shedding, 70% of patients were satisfied with the treatment. Positive trichoscopic changes were observed within one month, which may encourage continued adherence to the therapy. The study included male patients with a mean hair loss duration of 13 months, and a positive family history was noted in 78 subjects.
