Edematous Striae Distensae in a 14-Year-Old Girl with Nephrotic Syndrome

    A 14-year-old girl presented with total body swelling and large, swollen striae over the abdominal wall, which were especially prominent in dependent areas. Laboratory tests indicated nephrotic syndrome, with significant proteinuria and low serum albumin. Despite 2 months of high-dose prednisolone therapy, her condition did not improve. A renal biopsy confirmed mesangiocapillary glomerulonephritis. The unusually large edematous striae distensae were attributed to the combination of high-dose steroid use and mechanical stress from rapid body size increase due to edema fluid accumulation. The patient improved with fluid restriction and diuretics.
