TLDR New cosmetic treatments for acne, hair loss, cellulite, wrinkles, and skin resurfacing are effective.
In the 2005 issue of the Journal of Cosmetic and Laser Therapy, various advancements in cosmetic treatments were discussed. Prieto and Sadick evaluated the use of combined pulsed light and radiofrequency treatments for facial acne, including histological analysis. Ortiz et al. reviewed current laser and light treatments for acne, a field that has seen a surge in new technologies. Despite new topical and oral medications for hair loss, hair transplantation remained the most effective treatment, with Avram reviewing the latest techniques and patient consultation approaches. Alster and Tanzi presented data on a device combining radiofrequency, infrared light, and mechanical tissue manipulation for cellulite appearance improvement. Kulick studied the effects of combination radiofrequency and diode laser treatments for non-ablative facial wrinkle treatment. Trelles et al. used a blend of high-intensity blue light and near-infrared light to reduce erythema and discomfort post-laser skin resurfacing. Lastly, Niccoli-Filho et al. applied CO₂ resurfacing for correcting developmental lip defects.
