    In the 2011 study, the effect of an ethanolic extract of Hibiscus rosa sinensis flowers on hair growth was tested on female Wistar rats. The rats were divided into three groups and treated with a control solution, minoxidil, and the hibiscus extract. The treatment lasted for thirty days, with applications twice daily. Contrary to traditional beliefs, the results showed that the hibiscus extract actually slowed down hair growth, with the treated rats having shorter hair and their hair follicles predominantly in the telogenic (resting) stage. The study suggested that the extract could be useful in developing hair removal products for women.
