This study investigated the effects of a topical nanoemulsion of minoxidil on hair growth in animals, comparing it to commercial minoxidil solutions. Nanoemulsions with 1%, 2%, and 5% minoxidil were formulated, showing particle sizes of 11-12 nm. While ex vivo permeation studies showed no significant differences between the nanoemulsion and commercial formulations, the nanoemulsion did not cause skin irritation and had plasma concentrations of minoxidil below quantifiable levels. Notably, the 5% minoxidil nanoemulsion demonstrated enhanced hair growth and increased follicle count in vivo compared to commercial formulations, suggesting improved efficacy without increased permeation.
