TLDR Minoxidil and pyrithione zinc combo most effectively increases hair density.
A 6-month randomized controlled trial was conducted on 200 healthy men with Hamilton-Norwood type III vertex or type IV baldness to assess the hair growth benefits of a 1% pyrithione zinc shampoo compared to a 5% minoxidil topical solution, a placebo shampoo, and a combination of the two. Hair count results showed a significant increase in total visible hair counts for the 1% pyrithione zinc shampoo, the 5% minoxidil topical solution, and the combination treatment groups relative to the placebo shampoo after 9 weeks of treatment. The study concluded that daily use of a 1% pyrithione zinc shampoo over a 26-week treatment period can result in a modest and sustained improvement in hair growth. The combination of minoxidil and pyrithione zinc was found to be more effective in increasing hair density than either treatment alone.

Zinc pyrithione and piroctone olamine are effective for reducing hair shedding, possibly more so than ketoconazole. There is a concern about zinc pyrithione shampoo interfering with minoxidil, but it's unclear if this is proven.

community I am actually regrowing my hairline without minoxidil or finasteride (mechanical stimulation)

       130 upvotes 7 years ago
Regrowing hairline without the use of Minoxidil or Finasteride, and instead using mechanical stimulation such as Derma Roller, Nizoral, Zinc Pyrithione, Scalp Massage, Scalp Exercise, Fish Oil and other topical solutions. It is cautioned that there are risks associated with not using medically-prescribed treatments, but it is suggested to consider mechanical stimulation in addition to those prescribed treatments.
