TLDR Minoxidil is more effective than biotin for increasing nail growth rate.
This study compared the efficacy of 2.5 mg oral biotin and 5% topical minoxidil in increasing nail growth rate in 37 healthy adult volunteers. Participants were divided into four groups: control, exclusive minoxidil, exclusive biotin, and combined treatment. Results showed that both minoxidil and biotin significantly increased nail growth rate compared to the control, with minoxidil showing a 17% increase, biotin 13%, and the combination 15%. Minoxidil was superior to biotin alone, but the combination did not offer additional benefits over minoxidil alone. The study concluded that minoxidil was more effective than biotin in enhancing nail growth rate.
