Real-World Efficacy and Tolerability of Oral Dutasteride Combined with Oral Minoxidil for Male Androgenetic Alopecia: A Retrospective Cohort Study

This retrospective cohort study evaluated the efficacy and tolerability of a combined oral dutasteride (0.5 mg) and minoxidil (2.5 mg) treatment in 621 men with androgenetic alopecia (AGA) over 12 months. The study found that responder rates increased progressively, with 71.4% of patients showing improvement by month 9. Hair loss stabilization was achieved in 95.8% of patients by month 3, rising to 98.5% by month 6. Patients with severe baseline hair loss responded better than those with mild cases. Initial shedding was observed in 10.5% of patients at 3 months and was linked to a reduced likelihood of improvement. Adverse effects were rare, with low mood reported by 6.3% and decreased libido by 4.2% of participants. Overall, the treatment was well tolerated and led to significant hair stabilization and improvement.
