Evaluation of the Efficacy of Topical Psoralen and Ultraviolet A Photochemotherapy in Alopecia Areata

    TLDR PUVA treatment is effective and safe for alopecia areata.
    This study evaluated the efficacy and safety of topical psoralen and ultraviolet A (PUVA) treatment in 32 patients with alopecia areata (AA), aged 3 to 59. The results showed that 43.8% of patients had a good response, 28.1% had a moderate response, and 28.1% had no response to the treatment. The average number of treatment sessions was 70.1, with a mean cumulative dose of 450.1 J/cm². Acute side effects were observed in 3 patients. Overall, PUVA photochemotherapy was found to be an effective and safe treatment for AA.
