TLDR Combining triamcinolone acetonide with cryotherapy may reduce scalp hair loss more than using triamcinolone alone.
This study investigated the effectiveness of combining intralesional triamcinolone acetonide (TA) with cryotherapy versus TA alone in treating limited patchy alopecia areata on the scalp and face, involving 22 participants. Both treatments significantly reduced hair loss scores, with the combination treatment showing a greater reduction in the Severity of Alopecia Tool (SALT) score for the scalp, while TA alone was more effective for facial areas. Although both methods showed substantial improvement, no statistically significant difference was found between them. The study noted minimal adverse effects and highlighted the potential of the combination treatment, recommending further research with larger samples and longer follow-up to confirm these findings.
