Comparison of Therapeutic Efficacy of Topical Tacrolimus 0.1% and Topical Dithranol 0.5% in Treatment of Alopecia Areata

This study compared the therapeutic efficacy of topical Tacrolimus 0.1% and topical Dithranol 0.5% in treating alopecia areata over 24 weeks. Conducted at Combined Military Hospitals in Hyderabad and Abbottabad, the study involved patients divided into two groups: Group A received Tacrolimus, and Group B received Dithranol. Results showed that more than 80% hair regrowth was observed in 23.33% of patients in the Tacrolimus group and 40% in the Dithranol group. The study concluded that Dithranol is more effective than Tacrolimus, with a significant p-value of 0.039.
