TLDR Triamcinolone is more effective for hair regrowth in alopecia areata, but Vitamin D also helps, especially if levels are low.
This study compared the efficacy of Vitamin D replacement therapy and intralesional triamcinolone in treating alopecia areata in 56 patients over 12 months. Patients were divided into two groups of 28, with one group receiving Vitamin D and the other receiving triamcinolone. Results showed that triamcinolone was more effective in increasing hair density at 6 and 12 months. However, Vitamin D also showed potential for hair regrowth, particularly in patients with deficient serum vitamin D levels. Overall, while triamcinolone was more effective, Vitamin D administration also led to significant improvement.
