TLDR Early diagnosis and treatment of alopecia can improve students' quality of life.
This study, conducted between March 2 and April 30, 2015, aimed to determine the prevalence of alopecia among high school students in rural areas of Eskişehir, Turkey, and assess related factors and health-related quality of life. The study involved 1,662 students, with a 37.4% prevalence of alopecia identified. Higher alopecia rates were found in students from Beylikova and Mahmudiye, males, those with scalp complaints, oily scalp types, and girls with irregular menstruation. Students with alopecia had poorer quality of life in general health, vitality, and mental health as measured by the SF-36 scale. The study concluded that early diagnosis and treatment are necessary to reduce alopecia prevalence and improve students' quality of life, recommending health education, school screenings, and appropriate medical referrals and treatments.
