TLDR Zapoteca portoricensis extract may help protect against prostate issues and support liver and kidney health in rats.
The study examined the effects of ethanol extract from the stem of Zapoteca portoricensis on testosterone-induced benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH) in 25 male albino rats. The extract was safe at 5000 mg/kg and significantly reduced liver enzymes (ALP, ALT, AST), serum total bilirubin, creatinine, and urea levels, indicating protective effects on liver and kidney function. It also decreased prostatic acid phosphatase and 5-alpha reductase activities, suggesting therapeutic benefits for BPH without harming liver or kidney integrity. The findings suggested the extract could alleviate or protect against BPH-induced damage in rats.
