TLDR The excimer laser is a promising and safe treatment for frontal fibrosing alopecia.
The study evaluated the efficacy and safety of the 308-nm excimer laser as an adjuvant treatment for frontal fibrosing alopecia (FFA) in 30 patients, primarily women, with a mean age of 65.2 years. After 6 months, 53.3% of patients experienced stabilization of hairline recession, 20% showed improvement, and 26.7% had progression of alopecia. Additionally, 83.3% of patients showed improvement in erythema, and 70% showed improvement in perifollicular hyperkeratosis. The only adverse effect was transient erythema in 4 patients. The excimer laser appears to be a promising and safe option for FFA when used alongside existing treatments.
