TLDR Combining tacrolimus with excimer light is more effective for treating alopecia areata than using excimer light alone.
This study compared the effectiveness of excimer light alone versus a combination of tacrolimus 0.1% and excimer light in treating alopecia areata (AA) in 40 patients. Group A received excimer light treatment, while Group B received both tacrolimus and excimer light. Results showed that Group B experienced a greater reduction in the SALT score, from 11.15 to 0.5, compared to Group A, which decreased from 13.15 to 3.3 over 6 months. Additionally, Group B showed a significantly higher improvement in Treg function and dermoscopic findings. The study concluded that the combination treatment is more effective than excimer light alone for AA.
