Regulatory, Ethical, And Safety Considerations Of Exosome-Based Therapies In Dermatology

April 2026 in “ Dermatological Reviews
    Sawyeh Maher, Michael H. Gold
Exosome-based therapies show promise for regenerative applications in dermatology, including skin rejuvenation, wound healing, and hair restoration. However, these therapies face significant challenges due to variability in cell sourcing, manufacturing, and product characterization, complicating standardization and regulation. No exosome-based products have received FDA approval for dermatologic use, and there are concerns about adverse reactions and limited long-term safety data. The study emphasizes the need for regulatory literacy, transparent informed consent, structured product evaluation, and evidence-based clinical restraint to ensure patient safety as these therapies are integrated into clinical practice.
