TLDR MSC-derived exosomes may help in skin repair and regeneration.
The review discussed the potential of exosomes derived from mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) in dermatology, focusing on their therapeutic applications in skin conditions and hair growth. Exosomes were found to promote wound healing, enhance skin regeneration, and modulate immune responses. They showed promise in treating conditions like psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, and photoaging by promoting angiogenesis, fibroblast migration, and reducing inflammation. Exosomes from human dermal papilla cells were noted to promote hair growth, suggesting potential applications in hair loss treatments. Despite promising preclinical results, challenges remained in clinical translation due to the lack of standardization in MSC exosome production and administration. Further research was needed to optimize large-scale production and understand the molecular mechanisms of MSC exosomes.
