TLDR A 30 Gy radiation dose effectively causes severe radiodermatitis in rabbits.
This study aimed to describe an experimental model of radiodermatitis in rabbits, using 24 male New Zealand rabbits divided into 4 groups, including a control group and groups exposed to single radiation sessions of 10, 20, and 30 Gy. The results showed that rabbits in the 20 Gy and 30 Gy groups experienced alopecia lasting 60 and 90 days, respectively. The 30 Gy group developed grade 3 and 4 radiodermatitis, with significant reductions in appendage and blood vessel counts and increased collagen deposition compared to the control group. The study concluded that a 30 Gy dosage was the most effective for inducing radiodermatitis in this model.
