Familial Dyskeratotic Comedones: A Case Study and Review

    TLDR Familial dyskeratotic comedones are a rare, inherited skin condition that is hard to treat but may improve slightly with topical retinoids and urea cream.
    Familial dyskeratotic comedones (FDC) was an autosomal dominant inherited skin disorder marked by multiple comedone-like hyperkeratotic papules. It showed distinct histopathologic features, including dyskeratosis of the epidermis or follicle-like structures. Although asymptomatic and benign, FDC was resistant to treatment. A case study of a 54-year-old female with a 20-year history of the condition showed slight improvement after 3 months of topical retinoids and urea cream. The study also provided the first description of dermoscopic findings of FDC and reviewed 21 previously reported cases from 11 families.
