TLDR Finasteride effectively reduces prostate size and symptoms in most BPH patients.
The study evaluated the efficacy of finasteride in treating benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and involved 4,315 patients from 50 Polish clinics. Conducted from October 2008 to November 2009, the study found that 70% of patients using both finasteride and alpha-blockers experienced reduced disease progression, improved micturition, and a 40% reduction in prostate adenoma mass. Similarly, 25% of patients using only finasteride or finasteride with phytotherapy also saw a 40% reduction in adenoma mass. By the study's end, 5% of patients required surgery due to ineffective medication, while 85% opted to continue medication therapy.
