TLDR Neutropenic patients show significant changes in immune cell types and lower neutrophil and natural killer cell percentages.
This study investigated the expressions of lymphocyte, granulocyte, and monocyte subtypes in 24 patients with isolated neutropenia compared to 13 healthy volunteers. The results showed that the neutrophil/lymphocyte (N/L) mean fluorescence intensity (MFI) ratio was higher in patients, and there was a positive correlation between leukocyte counts and atypical monocytes expressing CD16. A negative correlation was observed between platelet counts and both the N/L MFI ratio and the percentage of CD11b on neutrophils. Additionally, the percentage of neutrophils and natural killer cells was significantly lower in the patient group. These findings indicate significant changes in lymphocyte and monocyte subtypes in neutropenic patients, with granulation in the N/L side scatter ratio primarily related to neutrophils.
