TLDR Folliculitis and pseudofolliculitis barbae are common but often overlooked issues in burn survivors, needing better awareness and treatment strategies.
This case study examines folliculitis barbae (FB) and pseudofolliculitis barbae (PFB) in five male burn survivors, aged 36-50, with facial and neck burns. The study highlights that FB and PFB are underrecognized complications in burn patients, particularly affecting those with partial-thickness burns in hair-bearing areas. The patients were treated with various methods, including topical mupirocin, triamcinolone ointment, laser therapy, and in some cases, skin grafting. Outcomes varied, with some patients responding well to treatment, while others required more extensive interventions. The study emphasizes the need for standardized diagnostic criteria and treatment protocols, suggesting a multidisciplinary approach involving dermatology for effective management.
