TLDR FUE is effective for improving hair regrowth and appearance in scarred areas.
This case series demonstrates the effectiveness of follicular unit extraction (FUE) in treating secondary cicatricial alopecia (CA) due to trauma or burns. Five patients with confirmed CA underwent FUE, achieving satisfactory hair regrowth and improved cosmetic appearance. The study highlights the need for individualized surgical planning, careful donor site selection, and diligent post-operative care. Although the graft survival rate was lower (~50%) compared to non-scarring alopecia, the results were promising, especially in post-traumatic cases. The authors conclude that FUE is a viable option for managing CA, enhancing both cosmetic and psychological outcomes.
