TLDR Follicular unit extraction successfully restored hair growth in a leprosy patient without disease relapse.
A 22-year-old male with a history of borderline tuberculoid leprosy experienced reduced hair growth on his left cheek due to a resolved skin patch from the disease. After confirming the disease was inactive, a follicular unit extraction (FUE) procedure was performed, where approximately 150 single hair follicle units were transplanted from the scalp to the affected area. One year post-procedure, the patient showed a 90% graft survival rate and significant hair growth, with no signs of leprosy relapse. This case demonstrated that FUE could effectively address cosmetic concerns related to hair loss in leprosy patients, potentially reducing associated stigma.
