TLDR Hair transplant surgery is a safe and effective way to treat hair loss from scarring in Chinese patients.
From January 2005 to December 2010, a study involving 37 Chinese patients with secondary cicatricial alopecia found that Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) was an effective treatment. The patients, who suffered from alopecia due to burns, trauma, or plastic surgery, had a mean survival rate of transplanted follicular units of 78.96%. Most patients (30 out of 37) achieved a 100% survival/transplanted area, with only two experiencing long-term complications in the form of epidermoid cysts. The study concluded that FUT is a safe and effective method for treating cicatricial alopecia, recommending its application in Chinese clinical practice, despite limitations such as a small sample size and the potential impact of longer operative times on graft survival.
