TLDR Bezoars can cause serious digestive issues and need early imaging and surgery for effective treatment.
This case report presents two distinct cases of gastrointestinal bezoars, highlighting the diagnostic and surgical challenges they pose. The first case involves a 16-year-old girl with a massive gastric trichobezoar linked to trichotillomania and trichophagia, which required surgical removal and subsequent psychiatric evaluation to prevent recurrence. The second case describes a 50-year-old man with multiple gastrointestinal phytobezoars associated with dietary habits, which were managed through surgical extraction and dietary counseling. The report emphasizes the importance of CT imaging for diagnosis and tailored surgical intervention based on bezoar type and extent, as well as addressing underlying psychiatric or dietary factors to prevent recurrence.
