TLDR Men see SMP as semi-permanent more than women, but women and younger people are more aware of side effects.
This study on Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) involved 340 participants and revealed significant gender- and age-related differences in perception and awareness of side effects. Men (93.3%) were more likely than women (77.4%) to view SMP as a semi-permanent cosmetic procedure, while women were more aware of side effects (71.9% vs. 55.5% of men). Younger respondents (20s and 30s) were more aware of potential side effects compared to those aged 70 and older, who reported no side effects. Concerns varied by age, with younger individuals worried about hair-loss aggravation and older individuals about pigment discoloration. The study highlights the need for tailored consultations and improved communication about risks, safety, and hygiene to enhance SMP reliability and professionalism.
