Integrative Study of Gene Expression and Protein Complexes

The study highlighted the shift from the 'one gene/one protein/one function' paradigm to an integrated view of cellular functions, emphasizing the importance of context in gene and protein expression. Using circadian expression data from human epidermal stem cells, it was found that transcript waves aligned with clock genes are crucial for skin homeostasis. The research also combined expression data with protein structure information to demonstrate the temporal regulation of protein-complex assembly during differentiation. Additionally, it was shown that human protein complexes consist of a stable core and a flexible periphery, allowing for tissue-specific, context-dependent functionality.
