TLDR A woman with a rare scalp infection was cured after one month of medication.
An immunocompetent 70-year-old woman from a rural village presented with painful scalp, face, and trunk lesions evolving over 2 months, diagnosed as generalized favus caused by Trichophyton schoenleinii. Examination revealed extensive cicatricial alopecia and scutula with a mousy odor. Microscopic and culture analyses confirmed the presence of T. schoenleinii. The patient had significant hypoalbuminemia due to prolonged fasting. Treatment with oral terbinafine (250 mg/d) for one month resulted in clinical and mycological cure. Generalized favus is rare and often associated with poor hygiene and malnutrition.
