TLDR PCOS is likely inherited in families, increasing risk for first-degree relatives.
This study investigated the genetic basis of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) by analyzing the phenotypic characteristics of male and female relatives of 15 PCOS patients. The research found that PCOS phenotypes follow an autosomal dominant pattern of inheritance, with eight pedigrees showing a simple Mendelian pattern and seven showing incomplete penetrance in males. The findings suggest that first-degree relatives of PCOS patients have a higher risk of developing the condition, providing insights into its heritability and aiding in the development of targeted prevention and treatment strategies.
