TLDR Ginkgo biloba has high genetic diversity, useful for future breeding.
The study analyzed the genetic diversity of 101 Ginkgo biloba germplasm resources using EST-SSR markers, revealing high genetic diversity and significant genetic variation across populations, particularly in Southwest China and the Guizhou population. Researchers identified 173,160 loci from 43,073 Unigenes and designed 43,731 primer pairs, with 20 markers showing clear polymorphism. The genetic variation was predominantly within populations, and two main genetic clusters were identified. A core collection of 27 genetic resources was constructed, representing 26.73% of the original germplasm's genetic diversity, ensuring conservation and efficient utilization of Ginkgo genetic resources. This research provides valuable molecular markers for Ginkgo genetic analysis, aiding in conservation and breeding efforts.
