Genetic Association Between Polycystic Ovary Syndrome and the APOA5 rs662799 and PLIN1 rs894160 Metabolic Variants in the Western Saudi Population: A Case-Control Study

This case-control study involving 191 Western Saudi women found significant associations between polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and specific genetic variants in the APOA5 and PLIN1 genes. The A allele of APOA5 rs662799 was linked to a higher risk of PCOS and hypertriglyceridemia, while the T allele of PLIN1 rs894160 was associated with increased PCOS susceptibility. These findings highlight novel genetic risk factors for PCOS in this population, enhancing the understanding of its genetic basis, though the study notes the limitation of a small sample size and suggests further research with larger cohorts.
