TLDR CLEC4D gene variants may increase the risk of alopecia areata in Jordanians.
The study examined the genetic basis of alopecia areata (AA) in 152 Jordanian patients compared to 150 healthy controls, focusing on immunity regulatory genes. It found a significant association between the CLEC4D rs4304840 SNP and AA, particularly in codominant and recessive forms, suggesting this gene variant may play a role in AA development. However, no significant associations were found with other genes after Bonferroni correction. The findings indicate the complexity of genetic factors in AA susceptibility and emphasize the need for further research to understand the disease's molecular pathogenesis.
