In 1989, a study investigated genetic electrophoretic variants in high-sulfur proteins of human hair for forensic purposes. The research analyzed 150 Japanese and 21 Caucasian hair samples, finding that 43 Japanese samples and 1 Caucasian sample exhibited an additional high-sulfur protein band, indicating a variant. This variant protein had an apparent molecular weight of 30 kDa and isoelectric points between 3.3-3.4. Family studies involving 21 matings and 49 children suggested that the variant was inherited in an autosomal manner.
