TLDR Hair testing can detect a single GHB exposure, useful for documenting sexual assault.
The study investigated the detection of gamma-hydroxybutyric acid (GHB) in hair to document single exposure, particularly in cases of sexual assault. Researchers collected hair samples one month after the alleged event and analyzed them using GC/MS/MS. They found that physiological concentrations of GHB in hair ranged from 0.5 to 12.0 ng/mg, with no variation due to hair color. A controlled administration of 25 mg/kg GHB to a volunteer showed that a single exposure was detectable in hair, with a significant increase in GHB concentration in the segment corresponding to the time of exposure. This method proved effective in documenting GHB exposure in cases of rape, as demonstrated by a clear increase in GHB levels in the relevant hair segment compared to others.

Scalp biopsies are crucial for diagnosing hair loss conditions like Diffuse Unpatterned Alopecia (DUPA) and retrograde hair loss, as treatments like finasteride and dutasteride may not be effective if other conditions are present. Combining PPAR-GAMMA agonists with retinoids could improve treatments for conditions like Lichen Planopilaris.

GLA may help with hair loss due to its anti-inflammatory properties and 5ar enzyme inhibition. It's considered potentially more important than biotin, especially for those already using finasteride and dutasteride.

Prostaglandin balance affects hair loss, particularly in conditions like Lichen Planopilaris, where an imbalance can lead to hair follicle damage. Treatments mentioned include prostaglandin analogs and Pioglitazone HCL, with a focus on maintaining prostaglandin equilibrium for potential hair regrowth.

Excess sebum rich in cholesterol and triglycerides can lead to hair loss through inflammation, with treatments like Ciclopirox shampoo, Benzoyl Peroxide shampoo, and Clindamycin gel recommended for managing conditions like seborrheic dermatitis and folliculitis. Pioglitazone is suggested for Lichen Planopilaris, while Omega-3s and reducing processed foods may improve sebum quality, though genetic factors play a significant role.
